Your donations to Out of the Closet Thrift Stores help in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Items in salable condition generate tax-free sales, which in turn fund life-saving medical care.

You can drop off your donated items at any of our locations throughout the Greater Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas.

3 Reasons to donate to Out of the Closet

1. You're helping people with HIV and AIDS. Proceeds from your donations directly benefit AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the nation's largest specialized provider of HIV medical care. Revenues from donated items fund life-saving medical care.

2. We make it easy. You can drop off your clothes and other smaller items at any of our stores near you. We'll even send a truck to pick up larger items such as furniture and large appliances in good condition.

3. You'll receive a nice tax deduction. All items donated to Out of the Closet are tax deductible at their fair market value. Internal Revenue Service code leaves it up to you, the donor, to decide the fair market value, which is usually defined as "the price a buyer is willing to pay and a seller is willing to accept." You can save on taxes while helping a great cause!

Items we can't take

Bed mattresses, water beds, linens, towels, bedding, medical supplies, built-in appliances, large office desks and children's toys and books. In addition, TV sets and appliances cannot be older than 7 years.

Based on discretion of the store, computers are accepted in good working condition only.

Items should be in clean and saleable condition. Some items are subject to refusal. If we have to throw it away, it's an expense to us.
